©Scott Sines — Memphis is not Chicago or Detroit, or New Orleans but it set a record in 2016 for homicides. It routinely ranks high on every ‘Dangerous City’ list. Everyday we read about the homicides but you never see the obituaries in the newspaper. I’ve tried a few times to start a writing project among inner city kids to write the obituaries and tell their stories, but there are just too many problems from dysfunctional families to gangs to cops. It’s as if these people never existed. As if nobody knew them or who they were.
