The Michigan Public Safety Commission is charged with approving the siting and routing of new hazardous liquid pipelines.

Chairman John D. Quackenbush was appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder in 2011, his term ends in 2017. He has deep background on the financial side of the energy industry. In 2011 he was named a Top Gun U.S. Industrials Investment Mind by Brendan Wood International.

The agency reviews applications from energy companies to make sure they comply with existing regulations, according to Gary Kitts, executive director of MSPC. The MPSC has no responsibility to inspect hazardous liquid pipelines.
